Week 7 - 30 November 2022
Principals Message
Kia ora koutou
It does seem a little unbelievable that it is December tomorrow, and there are a few weeks left of the school year.
Today we have had the playground surfacing resealed and our students have yet again been amazing with staying off this while work is being done. Due to the weather we continue to be patient for the court markings to be completed.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you for morning tea at 10.30am on Monday 5th in Te Kōhanga. This is to show our appreciation to all parents for your support during the year.
On Friday our Year 8 students are attending He Ra Whakawhanaungatanga Day with all other Year 8’s from Karori West Normal, Karori Normal, Makara, Brooklyn, Wadestown, and Kelburn Normal school. This is an initiative that our Kāhui Ako has been working towards and we are very pleased that students will have an opportunity to connect again before the end of the year.
This will start with a mihi whakatau at Karori West and then students will be in small groups based around what college they are attending next year and what their interests are. Wellington College, Wellington High, Wellington Girls and Onslow teachers are all involved in this event.
Presently I am reading the end of the year snapshots that teachers have completed. It is very pleasing to read of the progress that students have made in their learning, their view of learning and highlights. This will provide you with comments on progress since the middle of the year and the overall curriculum level that your child is working in relation to the New Zealand curriculum. You will receive the end of year snapshot on Monday 12th December. This will be emailed to you by your child’s teacher.
We have our year 8 leavers evening next Friday night at the community centre and I know the students are preparing for a great evening. I would like to thank the small group of year 7 parents and staff who are organising this event to make sure it is memorable and special.
As always, I am available if you would like to discuss anything with me.
Ngā mihi nui
Andrea

BSC - Before School Care
To be able to continue to offer this in 2023 we need to know if there is a need for our families. Currently this is a cost to the school daily. Can you please email the office to let us know if you need this service. At this stage, it may be unlikely for this to continue. Thank you to the four families we have heard from so far.
Wellbeing - SchoolTV Platform
Wellbeing - SchoolTV Platform
Resilience is the topic we are selecting this week. Building resilience not only helps a child deal with current difficulties, but it also helps develop a resilient mindset that will help them deal with challenges later in life.
Dr Lucy Hone is a Director of the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing & Resilience, a research associate at AUT University, a published academic researcher, best-selling author and blogger for Psychology Today. https://northland.nz.schooltv.me/newsletter/resilience

SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.

Talking about success is not always easy. There are many ways to describe success and sometimes we forget all the mahi that has gone into achieving many things.
How do you and your family view success? Lets encourage looking under the iceberg to validate progress and persistence.

Quality of the week - Tack
Tact is telling the truth kindly, with consideration for how your words will affect others. It is knowing what to say and what is better left unsaid. Tact is thinking before you speak. When you are tactful, you don’t tease or point out people’s differences to embarrass them. You are as careful about others’ feelings as you would like them to be of yours.
