On Friday 8th December we are extending our lunchtime and providing a free sausage sizzle for everyone, as we have been working on showing our values during our breaks. The break will be from 12 - 1pm and then time to eat will follow. If anyone is able to come and help us with the Sausage sizzle please email the office. We will start cooking at 12:30.
All staff have spent considerable time developing class lists over a number of weeks. Next week on Wednesday afternoon students will spend time with their class for 2024. These sessions provide a variety of activities for students to know who they will be with, the space they will be in and the teachers they will be working with in the team.
All students who are turning 5 at the beginning of the year will also be part of a session so they can know the space they will be starting school in and in most cases will see some familiar faces from preschool or kindy.
The following week we will have another session on Tuesday morning to continue to get to know one another and have some fun with new students. We find value in students knowing who they are with before the end of the year and understanding that change is normal and there are new opportunities. You will receive a paper copy of the class list with a brief introduction from the teachers in the team on Tuesday 12th December.
Katie McGrath will be leaving at the end of the year, to take up new opportunities for 2024, we thank Katie for her contributions to Northland and in particular Kapa Haka and Cultural events.
We are pleased to announce new staff who will be joining us in 2024. Alex Munro who is currently teaching at St Marks will be joining the Year 0-3 team and Charles Dawson will be joining the Year 4-8 team. We will be sharing the full staff for 2024 with you on December 13th.

Our Year 7 / 8 students are actively preparing gardens, and encouraged by the parent support and offer of native plants, compost, and advice. Thank you in advance to everyone who is helping to improve our environment. The students are key to having ownership and being able to take action in the school. We also want to thank Frank and Johnny for their time mowing the lawn by the pedestrian crossing. Much appreciated.
As always if you have questions or concerns or would like to have a conversation about our school please get in touch.

Native Planting
Are you an experienced gardener or perhaps have some spare native plants, cuttings or compost/top soil?
Northland School is in desperate need of some fresh native greenery to break up the vast amount of concrete. We would prefer smaller native plants/shrubs, however we aren't too picky on what they look like. Please help a small passionate group of Team Kākā turn this concrete bound school into a luscious green learning community. Let's do this! Email lyndseyb@northland.school.nz to let us know how you can help us!
Team Kākā would like to say a huge thank you to Mitre 10 at Crofton Downs who have donated us $150 worth of native plants for our school redevelopment project. Ka rawe!
Pest Control
Our school is working on a project about pests in our area. This project is where we place different kinds of tracking tunnels and traps around the community of Northland so we can see what kind of predators there are in our surroundings. We are doing this so Northland can become a predator free community. We kindly ask that everyone please not touch the traps so that they do not get damaged or ruined, we also would appreciate any donations of cardboard boxes or corflute signs. If you are able, we would like a few traps donated so we can set them up around the school. Email rachelp@northland.school.nz for more information!

Additionally, we will provide information on how to purchase the album through Bandcamp in our final newsletters of the year. Our Value Active- HikoHiko
Our quality is Helpfulness
Helpfulness is being of service. It is doing useful things for people, such as things they cannot do for themselves, something they do not have time to do, or just little things that make life easier. It is important to be helpful to ourselves too, by taking care of our bodies. There are times when we need help from others. That is a good time to ask for help.
