Kia ora tatou,
Ko Grant Henderson taku ingoa. My name is Grant Henderson and I have the privilege of joining Northland School as a Deputy Principal and teacher of Year 5/6. I have been in education for 33 years in a number of school roles and working for the Ministry of Education. I recently completed project work for the Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour Cluster 28. I have been in Wellington for 5 years now and my out of school interests include watching sports, coaching, music and enjoying the sights of Wellington. I look forward to meeting you all over the course of 2023 and 2024.
We are thrilled with the results of all our students who took part in the Regional Athletics yesterday. These are exceptional results and we all know there has been hard work and training to be able to perform at this level. Well done everyone!
During the year our senior students participated in a Problem Solving Challenge, whereby children attempt to solve 5 questions in 30 minutes with progressing difficulty. There are 5 challenges throughout the year and then based on results a Final Challenge for those who meet the criteria.
We had 75 students participate with the following overall results; Participation 39, Merit 23 and Excellence 13. To attain excellence the total accuracy across all 5 challenges was over 95%. Congratulations to the following students who have received Excellence; Heidi, Tilly, Tyler, Oliver, Emilia, Loki, Louise, Toby, Monty, Isaac, Eli, Marcus, Haaim, and Reuben.

Next week we have another session on Tuesday morning. You will receive information about your child’s teacher and class next Tuesday.
Teachers have completed all end of year assessments and have spent time preparing the end of year snapshot that provides a summary of progress and achievement. This will be uploaded onto HERO next week, you will receive a notification on HERO.
This Friday we are looking forward to the leavers dinner, and making sure our amazing year 8 students are celebrated and parents are able to have time to mix and mingle. I am looking forward to the evening and want to thank everyone who has supported Alex, Lyndsey and Rachel with the organisation of such an event.
Students from Kōtare and Tieke have been taking action on reduce, reuse and recycle. Our Value Creative- Auahatanga
Our quality is Joyfulness
Joyfulness is being filled with happiness. It is a peaceful sense of well-being. Joy is inside us all. It comes from an appreciation for the gifts each day brings. Joy comes when we are doing what we know is right, and when we laugh and see the humour in things. Joy is the inner sense that can carry us through the hard times even when we are feeling very sad.
