June 26 2024 Week 9
Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou
Welcome to Jessica, Keisha, Mecca and their whānau to Northland School.
Last night we celebrated Matariki with the community. We are so proud of all of our students who performed and demonstrated their skill in singing, dance and te reo. Thank you all for participating in the various activities, providing soup, helping with cleaning up, and supporting your child to take part.
A highlight for me was talking with many of you and hearing the positive stories about children’s confidence, enjoyment at school, the opportunities, and the increase in the number and ages of children taking part in kapa haka and the music group. We were also pleased to have a number of our past pupils, now at secondary school, return and enjoy the evening with us.
Next week is the end of Term 2 and I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the mahi that all our staff do for our students and the school. Teachers are completing reports based on where students are currently in reading, writing and maths. I have been reading over many and it is very encouraging to hear progress is occurring, goals have been achieved and next steps for learning are prioritised. There is also a very strong emphasis on the progress in The Code and improvements in Handwriting across the school. Please read the section on Reporting so you are informed what to expect on your HERO app next week.
We hope you have noticed the painting of the lines for Hopscotch, Four and Six Square games that our students can now enjoy anytime. This is adding to the options for play activities along with skipping. Last Friday we had a skipping focus during our rōpu whanaungatanga session and a number of our older students successfully coached younger students to learn how to skip and how to anticipate the rope when skipping with others. It was a lot of fun.
In the last week, each team is celebrating learning in a different way. Team Tieke/Kōtare/Kākā invite you into their classrooms on Thursday 4th from 2pm -3pm and Team Ruru invite you to a performance on Friday from 9-10:30am. We look forward to seeing you come and see your children and their mahi for the term.
If you would like to come and chat or have questions or concerns please get in touch with any of the senior leadership team, Andrea, Judith and Grant.
Ngā mihi
Andrea
