Week 5 - 16 November 2022
Principals Message
Kia ora koutou
Last Friday we all came together in Te Kōhanga to work in our whānau groups. All our Year 8 students prepared activities that their whānau group could enjoy while getting to know one another more. It was great to see the leadership and younger children looking up to our elder students both during the session and throughout the day.
During our Whānau Hui on Monday evening a number of our Year 7 students shared their experience of our earlier Whanaungatanga day where they were involved in supporting children from Tūi through to Ruru in learning about cultures and building relationships. They spoke confidently and it was great to hear they are keen for whānau groups to be developed more next year.
We are hoping the weather continues to be fine for the Western Zone Athletics this Friday. We know everyone who is representing Northland will do their best and enjoy doing what they love. We have close to 60 students attending and a number of parents helping, thank you.
During this week and next week, teachers are attending NZEI meetings across the country. We have managed to cover all teachers to do this during the day across two weeks to minimise disruption to learning.
Please continue to check the website with updates, seesaw or communicate with your childs’ teacher if you are unsure about dates and events.
As always, I am available if you would like to discuss anything with me.

Community Survey
We Want To Hear From You
Thank you to those that have already completed the survey. Each year Northland School (along with the BOT) refreshes and updates the schools strategy for the forthcoming year. The purpose of our strategy is to identify and focus on areas of opportunity that can help the school deliver its long-term goal and objectives. You can view the 2022-2024 Overview on our website under the Board of Trustees page.
So that we can review our progress since the last survey in 2021 and continute to build on and embed the changes that have occured since then and inform the schools planning for 2023, we would like to hear from you. The pou this survey focues on are Whanaungatanga and Oranga. The survey will be open for 2 weeks and will close on Friday 18 November and can be found on this link. Paper copies are also available in the office if you would prefer.
Zones of Regulation
We can control our behaviour, our goals, our efforts, our friendships, asking for help, learning from mistakes, being kind.
We can't control what others think, what others say, how others behave, or past mistakes, or the weather.

Quality of the week - Assertiveness
Being assertive means being positive and confident. It begins by being aware that you are a worthy person with your own special gifts. When you are assertive you think for yourself and ask for what you need. You have the self confidence to tell the truth about what is right.
