Principals Message
Kia ora koutou
Last Friday our students shone at the Western Zone Athletics. It was exciting to hear throughout the day the students who placed in events, surprised themselves with talent, showed empathy for others and worked together to support and cheer one another on. For a small school we certainly stood out amongst the others.
We are looking forward to having new families and children starting in Term 1 2023 join us on Wednesday 7th Dec 9am to 10.30am and Monday 12 Dec 1.30 to 3pm, this is to support transition to school.
Tomorrow our Year 8 students who are attending Wellington Girls and Wellington College will attend an orientation day to become familiar with their new college.
New look for the Newsletter
In response to community feedback regarding the newsletter, we have moved to schoolzine to provide a platform that will improve readability in various devices for you. Last week we sent the newsletter from the new platform. We know that 75% of the community viewed the newsletter and would like to see an increase in this. We hope this will be more effective and user friendly. You can select many languages and font size for your preference. The school calendar, website, archived newsletters are easily accessible through this platform. We would like to hear what you think so far.
We will send the school link email each week and keep updating the website as we work through the process of migrating our systems.
Grants - We would like to thank Thomas George Macarthy Trust for providing us with $2,000.00. This trust is administered by Public Trust which makes biennial grants to all schools registered with the Ministry of Education, operating in the Trust’s funding region. The grant can be used for the purchase of books or computers ( hardware and software) to be used in the school library. Erwin is doing a wonderful job selecting new material for our Library.
We have also received $300 from the Rotary Club of Karori to provide resources to support programmes. We appreciate the generosity of the wider community.
Please continue to check the website with updates, seesaw or communicate with your childs’ teacher if you are unsure about dates and events.
As always, I am available if you would like to discuss anything with me.

BSC - Before School Care
We are fortunate to be able to provide before school care at school from 7:30-8:30 at a low cost. To be able to continue to offer this in 2023 we need to know if there is a need for families.
Currently the school is subsiding this cost. Can you please email the office to let us know if you need this service. At this stage, it may be unlikely for this to continue.
Wellbeing - SchoolTV Platform
Wellbeing - SchoolTV Platform
To support our community we have selected a wellbeing resource that will provide up to date information and guidance from professionals on a wide variety of topics for parents and educators. We will promote topics regularly that you may be interested in, there are interviews, fact sheets and short videos.
There is a button on our website home page that will take you directly to the site.https://northland.nz.schooltv.me .
Some of the topics covered are cybersafety, mental health, positive parenting, school survival, healthy body, and special reports. The topic of transitions is very relevant for everyone, whether the change from primary to secondary or moving to a different school or moving away from Wellington.

SchoolDocs - Policies
Our school has been working with SchoolDocs to create a website for our policies and procedures. We are excited to announce that the site is now live and available to our school community.
SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our board of trustees has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented. We will advise you when policies are up for review and how you can take part in the review next year.
We invite you to visit the site at https://northland.schooldocs.co.nz (note that there's no "www."). Our username is "northland" and password "orangikaupapa"
Community Survey
Thank you to those of you who completed our survey. We are now collating responses and analysing the feedback to assist us with reviewing the impact of initiatives for our 3 pou.
I have also been having conversations with parents about learning, programmes and possibilities for next year, so thank you for coming in and talking with me.

We are pleased with the overall strategies that students are now using more confidently when they need to calm. Square breathing is easy to remember and simple actions can support the feeling as you breathe.

Quality of the week - Patience
Patience is quiet hope and trust, expecting things to turn out all right. Patience is being calm and tolerant when difficult things happen. It means showing acceptance when you or others make mistakes. Patience is doing something now so that later it will bear fruit, like planting a seed and waiting for it to grow. Patience is commitment to the future.
